Painting Workshop ‘like Van Gogh, Warhol or Rembrandt!’
Creativity inspired by a casual atmosphere. These will be the tones of this interesting and artistic workshop! Get to work like Van Gogh or paint a self portrait like Rembrandt!
You can choose from different types of styles in painting and carving. Included are the training and instructions from professional art teachers from Amsterdam, the use of the studio, all materials and necessary art equipment and the organisation of the event.
The guests will be welcomed with coffee, tea and petite four and will be able to enjoy another drink during the workshop. The workshop takes about 2 hours, unless previously arranged otherwise.

Portrait Andy Warhol style
On paintings 24 by 30 centimetres. A picture will be painted by every participant. This may be their own picture, a picture of a colleague or (like the Marilyn Monroe paintings) 1 picture in several different styles. Please note that we need a clear picture 10 x 15 cm, or digital (300 dpi) beforehand!
Self-portrait in Rembrandt Style
The guests will make a painting of themselves, aided by a lamp and a mirror, on a canvas of 30 X 40 centimetres. The teacher will start with an explanation and demonstration about Rembrandt’s techniques with illumination, dark dramatic styles, how you actually make a portrait, how you can create a face by adding spots, how to work with typical Rembrandt colours, and finally how to use a sponge next to a pencil.
You’ll work on painting easels on which mirrors and little lights are attached. The paintings are previously prepared in ochre. The teachers will instruct the participants and give them individual advice & guidance.
Painting in Van Gogh style.
In the studio there will be several examples of ‘still life’ with sunflowers, lemons, a crystal carafe, an old shoe, all inspired by paintings of Van Gogh. Surrounding these still lives there will be easels and working tables with equipment and materials. The teachers will start the workshop with an explanation of techniques and skills and some background information about Vincent. The participants will then make a start in coal after which they will paint the 24 x 30 cm painting, inspired by Van Gogh’s use of colours. The teachers will instruct and help the participants individually. At the end of the workshop everybody will present their piece of art.
Shaping & Carving a Head or Figure
The guests will make a portrait or figure in clay. After the teacher has given the instructions and demonstrations, the participants will get to work! After the shaping and carving is over, the piece of art will be baked in the studio and can be collected afterwards or, you can take it home to bake yourself! Materials and clay are all included.
Painting Nude Model
The guests will, under guidance of a professional painter, sketch or paint a nude model. This very interesting workshop teaches you the basics of painting the human body, using perspective and zooming on a basic level.
Amsterdam City View
Settle your easel somewhere in the city, just like Rembrandt and paint a typical Amsterdam view. This workshop is of course very dependable on the weather, but don’t be discouraged! Your result will be an unforgettable painting of our precious city.
